Grading procedure

The grading system is historically based on 1 – 10 but effectively starts at 6.  The key score is 7 which is considered the average attainable score, representing a reasonable standard.

  • A grading with a score of 2 x 6 or 6 ½ is marginal, a 3rd class pass at best.
  • A grading with all scores of 7 or better is a 2nd class pass, with 2 or more 7+ 2nd+.
  • A grading with 2 eights is a 1st class pass.
  • 6          Below standard, work required to bring this technique up to standard.
  • 6+        Not quite up to standard.
  • 7          Represents a reasonable standard.
  • 7+        Parts of the discipline or technique are better than standard, but not all of it.
  • 7 ½      First of the above average scores, excels in many areas of the discipline.
  • 8          Top score, represents outstanding technique etc. for grade being taken.
